The player needs to uncover cells without detonating a mine. Mines are placed after the first move, so there's no risk of losing immediately. If those neighboring cells are also free of mines, some unmined area around the numbered cells gets revealed. Players can mark potentially mined cells to avoid opening them by mistake. The objective is to successfully uncover all the unmined cells.
